is hemp marijuana

One of the biggest misconceptions that people think is that hemp and marijuana are the same things. While they are both considered a form of cannabis, there are distinct differences between them. In this article, we discuss the many differences between hemp and marijuana, along with their anatomy, use, history, and legality.

What is Hemp?

The hemp plant is one of the oldest plants known to man that has been cultivated for thousands of years. These plants have provided a significant source of uses, as every part of the hemp plant can serve an important purpose. For instance, hemp fiber is derived from the plant’s stems and the seeds serve as a high level of protein, among many other nutrients. The oil that is extracted from the seeds also serves many purposes. Therefore, hemp can be used for a wide range of purposes, including health and diet, ailments, and more. Hemp products come in many forms, including food and beverages (hemp seeds or hemp milk), hemp seed oil, hemp creams, as well as much different construction and building materials.

The fiber used in hemp is known to be highly durable, as it has been used to make clothing, textiles, papers, and rope for thousands of years. The hemp fiber is not only highly durable but also breathable, and biodegradable, among many other factors.

Beyond the fact that hemp shives have contributed to a number of industrial means for centuries, it is also used today for a number of other purposes. For example, hemp shives are also used for building and construction materials, which is known as hempcrete. Hempcrete is a biodegradable material that is also mixed with other components, such as lime, sand, and more. Hempcrete provides a great deal of insulation, and durability, and is mold, fire, and pest resistant. Hempcrete can be used in panels, blocks, ceiling panels, and much more.

Hemp seeds are also a very popular way to consume a diet rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Hemp seeds are known for their healthful ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids. They can be added to foods in a variety of ways, such as salads, yogurt, smoothies, protein bars, muffins, and more. Or if you prefer to have hemp seed oil, you can also have the oil in foods, and can even be used as an alternative for olive oil.

Hemp milk is another popular option for consuming hemp. Hemp milk is a plant-based milk that has a nutty flavor and is naturally light. The look, taste, and texture is very similar to regular milk. Hemp milk, otherwise known as hemp seed milk, can be found at most grocery stores and health food stores. However, you can also make it at home, if you prefer.

Hemp seed oil is also popular in skincare. Studies have shown that hemp seed oil contains a high level of fatty acids, which may contribute to improved skin. Some researchers believe that using hemp seed oil in your skincare regimen can possibly see improvements in eczema, psoriasis, acne, and other skin issues. Hemp seed oil is made from extracting the oil from the hemp seeds, resulting in an oil that is rich in fatty acids.

Overall, there are so many different uses of hemp and many studies have shown that incorporating hemp into your daily diet and routine has posed great benefits. However, just like with any supplement, it is important to speak with your doctor about incorporating hemp into your routine if you wish to use or consume it for health and dietary purposes.

Does Hemp Contain THC?

While hemp contains a variety of cannabinoids – one of them being tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the intoxicating compound found in marijiana – it does not contain enough THC to result in any type of intoxicating effects.

One of the most distinct differences between hemp and marijuana is the amount of THC that their respective plants contain. In the U.S., industrial hemp must not contain more than 0.3% THC. Because industrial hemp cannot contain a significant amount of THC, it will not result in a high when used or consumed. Therefore, hemp products are legalized throughout the U.S. and can be found in a variety of stores, such as certain grocery stores and health food stores.

Any product containing more than 0.3% THC is no longer considered hemp and is considered to be federally illegal.

How is Hemp Cultivated vs. Marijuana?

As mentioned previously, there are a variety of differences between hemp and marijuana and it doesn’t just stop at the difference in THC concentrations and their uses. In fact, hemp and marijuana are cultivated and harvested much differently from one another.

For example, hemp can be cultivated outdoors and does not require a lot of maintenance. This means that hemp plants can be grown just about anywhere – in almost any environment, in a variety of soils and climates, and requires very little irrigation. Hemp plants grow much like a weed, meaning that they grow quickly and in abundance. Because hemp is a plant and requires little irrigation, it is environmentally friendly and is a great alternative to a variety of products.

On the other hand, marijuana plants are often grown in indoor operations or greenhouses and require much more maintenance compared to hemp plants. For example, marijuana requires a warm, humid, and controlled environment in order to grow and grow with space between other plants, as opposed to hemp plants.
