Hemp Oil

Hemp has been used for centuries (as early as 2700 BC) and cultivated for humankind for various purposes. Traditionally, the fiber in hemp was used to create clothing, textiles, shoes, ropes, and much more. And today, hemp is used for even more products, which makes it a multifaceted plant that can be attributed to many different incredible uses.

Beyond what the well-known products hemp is used for, you’d be surprised by the various nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that the fascinating plant holds. But before we dive into the many benefits that studies have claimed regarding hemp, let’s discuss a little more about the background of hemp.

Although hemp had been used for thousands of years, it eventually became grouped with cannabis (marijuana), which made it illegal. This was due to the many misconceptions surrounding hemp, its capabilities, and its uses. However, in 2018, the passing of the Farm Bill legalized industrial hemp. This meant that legally, hemp can be produced and sold for industrial use; however, under strict regulations. Industrial hemp may not contain over 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive found in marijuana. THC is a compound that causes a psychoactive effect, otherwise known as a high. Simply said, you will not experience a high from any hemp products that are sold legally throughout the U.S.

Because the U.S. regulates the sales of hemp products, meaning they cannot contain more than 0.3% THC, hemp products can be found at various places, such as grocery stores, health food stores, online, and more. In fact, today, there is a wide range of hemp products that are sold, including hemp seeds, hemp oils, hemp milk, and more. In addition, hemp is even used in building materials, bioplastic, and more!

How is Hemp Oil Used?

How to Use Hemp Oil?

Now, let’s get into hemp oil in particular, its claimed benefits, and how it can be used. Hemp can be applied topically or can be consumed – it can even be added to essential oils. Here are some interesting ways that hemp oil can be used that you may have not been aware of:

  • May improve dry skin

Many people suffer from dry skin. Whether you have dry skin on your face or throughout your body, studies have shown that hemp oil contains a high level of hydrating benefits that can benefit your skin, keeping it nice and hydrated. You can use hemp oil topically by rubbing it onto the affected area. Or, if you prefer a deep conditioning treatment for your hands or feet, you can massage the hemp oil onto your hands and feet and sleep with gloves or socks on overnight to ensure that the oil really penetrates the troubled areas and wake up with nurtured skin.

  • May improve the health of the scalp and hair

Hemp oil is rich in fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, among many other healthful benefits. If you suffer from a dry scalp, dry hair, or breakage of hair, it is worth trying hemp oil. Simply rub the oil into your scalp if you suffer from a dry scalp or do deep conditioning for your roots and ends if you wish to see improvement in the health of your hair. But remember, healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp, so be sure that you take care of your scalp, too.

  • May help with pain management

As mentioned before, hemp oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that the anti-inflammatory properties found in hemp oil may help with pain relief. Hemp oil is a completely natural remedy that may help you with chronic pain relief, as well as headaches. Simply apply it to the affected area to experience a natural pain relief solution.

  • May lower blood pressure

Studies have shown that hemp oil may help with reducing blood pressure, in combination with omega-3 fatty acid supplements and blood pressure medicine. Hemp oil contains a healthy ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids, which may help with reducing the blood pressure of individuals who suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure). However, if you wish to use or consume hemp oil for health reasons, especially for hypertension, then it is always best to discuss it with your primary care physician beforehand. This is because it is possible that certain medications may interfere with hemp oil.

  • May reduce acne and other skin problems

Acne, psoriasis, and other skin conditions are suffered by millions of people throughout the world. Studies have shown that hemp oil may help alleviate symptoms of acne, and psoriasis, among other skin conditions. Simply massage the hemp oil into the troubled areas daily. However, it is best to speak with your dermatologist beforehand to ensure that any medications you are currently taking do not interfere with the hemp oil and also, it is imperative that you determine you are not allergic to hemp oil before trying.

  • May support overall health

While it is possible for you to experience benefits from using hemp oil topically, it is also possible for your overall health to experience benefits by consuming it orally. As previously mentioned, hemp oil is rich in a number of fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Therefore, you can try incorporating hemp oil into your daily diet by enjoying it alone or incorporating it into foods, such as yogurt, rice, potatoes, smoothies, and much more.
