The trichomes allow the plant to create cannabinoids and terpenes, which are used for a variety of therapeutic purposes and benefits.

Hemp buds and cannabis buds look very similar and even smell and taste the same; however, there is one key difference between the buds: one will get you high and the other won’t. In other words, the hemp buds will not result in a high or psychoactive effect, while the cannabis buds can.

As mentioned previously, industrial hemp is legal in the U.S. due to the fact that it cannot contain any more than 0.3% of THC. Products containing more than 0.3% of THC are considered to be marijuana, which is illegal federally. 

Hemp products are sold in a variety of stores, including grocery stores, health food stores, and more. You can find hemp products in many different forms, including oils and tinctures, foods, and pet products, and hemp is even used in building materials known as hempcrete. Here are some examples of hemp products that you can find today:

  • Hemp seed oil, which can be consumed alone, in foods and drinks, or used topically. 
  • Hemp seeds, which can be added to foods, such as yogurt, salads, or blended into smoothies. 
  • Hemp milk, which is a plant-based milk, which resembles regular milk in look, texture, and taste. Hemp milk has an earthy-nutty flavor, which is a great alternative to regular milk and other milk alternatives.

  • Hemp pet products come in different forms, such as oils or in treats.   • Hempcrete, also known as limecrete, is a biocomposite material that is used as an alternative to traditional building materials. Hempcrete promotes insulation, resists moisture, is non-toxic, and is fairly lightweight.

Hemp is highly sustainable and essentially every part of the hemp plant serves a purpose. Keep in mind that these are just a few examples of how hemp is used today. Traditionally, hemp has been used for creating materials, textiles, and much more.
